Fish Samoa
Fishing in Samoa – Get Hooked!
If fishing is your game, Samoa is your perfect holiday destination. Samoa’s deep blue waters are blessed with a diverse range of fish year-round, a premium sport and game fisherman’s paradise that’s been called the world’s best-kept fishing secret. With so many highly rated sport fish to be targeted, fishing in Samoa is often an extremely exciting and action packed angling experience.
To find fish, you really need to get out on the water. There are a number of professional fishing operators who run fishing charters on demand. Fishing charters can be booked for as little as 2 hours, although half day or full day charters are more popular. Charter operators provide tackle, gear, bait, water, soft drinks and lunch (on full day tours) so all you need to bring is your hat, sunscreen, gloves and good luck charm.
It pays to check out how the catch is divided up when booking your charter as some operators insist on keeping everything caught on the boat. Others allow guests to take home at least part of the catch, which is just perfect on the BBQ back at Ifiele’ele Plantation after a day out on the water.
Information on four of the best fishing charter operators is provided at the bottom of the page.
After a day out on the water, Ifiele’ele is the perfect location to re-live the day’s excitement. Tell tales of your fishing adventure while cooking up a feast of fresh fish on the wood-fired BBQ. Or, ask our resident chef to prepare some sashimi, oka or poke with your catch. Relax and dine under the stars in our pool fale. The perfect way to cap off a successful day’s fishing.
Some of the more popular fish species inhabiting Samoa’s waters are:
Blue Marlin
A powerful, aggressive fighter, they run hard and deep in a seemingly inexhaustible display of strength.
Black Marlin
A highly prized game fish, the Black Marlin has the power, size, and persistence of anglers’ dreams.
Sailfish
It’s size, fight and spectacular aerial acrobatics endear the Sailfish to an angler using lighter tackle.
Spanish Mackerel
This schooling species is a fast moving, voracious predator and is often found feeding on schools of baitfish.
Wahoo
The Wahoo is one of the fastest fish in the ocean, it’s speed and strength will have your reel screaming.
Yellowfin Tuna
Easily one of best eating fish in the world, the yellow fin tuna also puts up a solid fight.
Dogtooth Tuna
An excellent sport fish, the Dogtooth’s first run is fast and long, followed by a deep, circling, tough fight.
Mahi Mahi
Also known as the Dolphin Fish or Dorado, this spectacular fish is extremely acrobatic once hooked.
Giant Trevally
The Giant Trevally is a highly rated sport fish for its large size and extremely hard fight it gives.
